We bake fresh in‑house every day. You’ll always find:

Gluten‑free cakes, tray bakes and quiches
Regular dairy‑free options
Occasional vegan treats
Baguettes, Cinnamon rolls and more

Our bakes are made with care, using high‑quality ingredients to ensure flavour and texture everyone can enjoy.

Refills

We offer a wide range of dry goods including fruit, nuts, seeds, coffee, sugar and more.

Our refill concept grew from a desire to make eco‑friendly living affordable. Instead of self‑service, we refill your containers for you — a nod to the personal service of times gone by. Thanks to careful sourcing and bulk buying, we’re able to offer quality products at competitive prices — for example, refilling a jar of parsley costs around 20p.

We stock a full range of liquid refills. All products are vegan, cruelty‑free, septic‑tank safe, and free from harsh chemicals. We source from Fill, a certified B Corp and Leaping Bunny‑approved company. Their recycled drums are returned, cleaned, and reused — a truly zero‑waste system.

Our Story

A family business through the generations

The shop first joined the Watson family around 1913, when Charlie Watson opened a butcher’s shop. His son Ernie later took over, followed by Ian Watson (Mark’s father).

Over the years, the shop evolved — selling groceries, household goods, home‑baked cakes, and penny sweets. Those sweets, displayed on a table in the centre of the shop, are fondly remembered by generations of local children. Many now return with their own children, sharing stories of their childhood visits.

Today, Off the Scale Castleton continues that legacy — blending heritage, community, and sustainability in one welcoming space.
