Why Zero Waste?
Zero waste is a term we hear more and more, but why? Zero waste living is not a new way of life, more a reincarnation of life before the industrial revolution, the development of plastics and a more wasteful way of living. Many Off the Scale customers can recall shopping being very different when they were younger, similar to Beamish, going into the shop with empty bottles to return for your deposit back, buying produce by weight in paper bags and of course buying sweets by the quarter!
Zero waste means a different way of thinking about your shopping, it means considering the importance of less rubbish and more re-useable items and less food waste. For example buying fruit and nuts in plastic bags, at set amounts, means one plastic bag ends up in landfill and inevitably you often buy more than you need resulting in food waste too.
Zero waste shopping allows the consumer to buy only what they need and without single use plastic so a win on two counts!
Here at Off the Scale we source our produce very carefully and hope to be able to make the Zero Waste lifestyle more obtainable to all by finding the best prices and passing them on to the customer, it has to be said that buying your herbs and spice from us and reusing your empty spice jar will save you a small fortune!
